According to foreign media reports, a few days ago, the British regulatory authorities have decided not to approve the second phase of AMD's $35 billion dollars (about 230 billion yuan) acquisition of Xilinx and directly approved the transaction. Prior to this, the US FTC committee, the Department of Justice and other departments also approved the transaction. This also means that the decision of the Chinese regulatory authorities will be the key to whether the transaction can finally take place.

On October 27, 2020, AMD announced that it will spend $35 billion to acquire Xilinx, a major FPGA manufacturer, and the transaction will all use AMD's stock. After the merger, AMD CEO Dr. Su Zifeng will continue to serve as CEO, and Xilinx CEO Victor Peng will join the new company as president. By then, at least two Xilinx executives will also join the AMD management team. It is reported that the new company will have as many as 13,000 engineers and technicians, and the combined annual research and development investment will be 2.7 billion US dollars.

AMD's huge acquisition of Xilinx is considered to be a data center processor business comparable to Intel and NVIDIA. Intel previously spent $16.7 billion to acquire Altera in 2015, while NVIDIA announced the acquisition of ARM for $40 billion. At present, there seems to be resistance to NVIDIA's acquisition of Arm, but according to foreign media reports, Broadcom, MediaTek, and Marvell have all expressed support for NVIDIA's acquisition of Arm.
